Hello and Welcome!
The product that we’re reviewing today is a new one for me. Whilst I’ve, of course, used brush cleaners in the past, I’ve never actually had a brush cleaning jar.
Like everyone else, I pretty much hate cleaning my makeup brushes. It takes forever, and I always used to put the cleaning product into my hand and then clean the brush through that, so my hands would end up feeling uncomfortable by the time I was done.
I applied to review the jar through their website and received the loveliest message back from the brand saying how much they enjoyed my blog. They offered to send me one of their brush jar’s for free in exchange for me to complete a survey to review the product. They didn’t ask me to write a dedicated blog post, but I would like to!
This ‘100% Natural Deep Cleaning Brush Jar’ costs £7.49 and can be bought through the Natural Essentoils’ website.
As I do with all brands you may be unfamiliar with, I’m going to be writing a little bit of information about who the brand are before getting into the review fully.
Who are Natural Essentoils?
On their website’s ‘About’ page, it states:
‘We believe in creating natural products with easy to understand ingredients. That’s why at Natural Essentoils, we only use what nature has given us.
Launched in Summer 2017, all of our products are handmade in the UK from the finest natural ingredients, are suitable for vegans and have never been tested on animals.
Whether it’s our popular make up brush cleaners or scented sprays, we want to ensure that you understand exactly what goes into our products. Our ingredient lists are clearly visible on all packaging as well as the website, and anything you are unfamiliar with can be looked up in our Help Centre.’
As well as the deep cleaning brush jar that we will be reviewing today, the brand stock a daily spray brush cleaner, a make-up brush shampoo, false eyelashes, and two different types of scented room sprays.
You can view their full product list here.
As you can see from the photo above (and from the title), this product comes in a glass jar with the brand and product name on the outside. It also says on the sticker on the outside that it’s ‘natural, cruelty free, and vegan’.
I like this packaging as, unlike liquid brush cleaners, it’s easier to use the product inside the jar. The solid form makes it less messy and, unlike other products, the jar is recyclable (or reusable) after you’ve finished the brush cleaner in the jar.
Aqua, Glycerin (from vegetable oil), Sodium palmate (from sustainable palm oil), Sucrose (from sugar cane), Sodium cocoate (from coconut oil), Decyl glucoside (from corn starch and coconut), Sodium chloride (salt), Citric acid (from citrus fruits), Aloe barbadenis leaf juice powder (from aloe plant), Sodium citrate (from citrus fruit salts) Sodium palm kernelate (salt from palm kernel oil) Melaleuca alternifolia oil (tea tree oil), Cymbopogon schoenanthus oil (lemongrass oil), Thymus vulgaris oil (thyme oil).
How to Use
The following information was taken from the Natural Essentoils website:
- Wet brush under warm water.
- Place the brush into the jar and rub against the soap until foam forms.
- Under slow running water, rub the brush from the base to the tip to remove and dirt / debris.
- Squeeze excess water from brush and lay down flat to fully dry.
Additionally, it says that in order to remove any makeup or dirt that is left on the surface of the jar, you just need to add a small amount of water into the jar, swirl it around, and tip it out.
It also says that as it’s a natural product, there may be some small white bubbles on the surface of the product (mine did have this), but that it doesn’t change the way that the product works, and will go after the first use (it did go for me).
I must admit, I’m not the best at cleaning my makeup brushes. I always have ‘clean makeup brushes’ written on a to-do list for days, if not weeks, until I get around to doing it. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the feel of freshly cleaned makeup brushes. There’s something so nice about using new-feeling brushes, it’s like putting freshly cleaned sheets on your bed. However, because of the brush cleaner I had before, it took ages to clean my brushes and I ended up with my hands feeling uncomfortable.
I first used this jar brush cleaner after one of my halloween makeup looks (this one) so my brushes were in quite a bad shape and were covered in all kinds of makeup, including fake blood. I thought this would be a great time to fully test the brush cleaner and I have to say it was extremely impressive. It cut through all of the makeup (including dried, crusty, fake blood) really easily and removed it quickly and efficiently.
The product smells incredible, it’s got quite a lemony scent which makes it very fresh and clean smelling. The scent also faintly remains on the brushes after they’ve dried which is nice.
Overall, I really love this brush cleaner. I specifically like anything that has sustainability embedded into it, it’s something that is really important to me. Therefore, I love that this product has no plastic and instead is in a glass jar. The product itself works incredibly well, is much easier than any other brush cleaner I’ve tried, and smells great. I also think the jar would last a very long time as you don’t use much of the product per brush. This product actually makes me want to clean my brushes more, which is impressive considering I hate cleaning my makeup brushes. I think the price is fair and I’ll definitely be repurchasing this product after it runs out!
If you’d like to purchase this product then you can grab it from the Natural Essentoils website here.
UPDATE: After posting my review the brand offered me a discount code for 10% off, so if you’d like to save 10% then add the code ‘multibendybeauty10’ when you check out – this brings the price of the jar down to £6.75. This is NOT an affiliate discount code.
