Cold Weather Dry Skin Favourites

Hello and Welcome!

I hope that your day is going amazingly! As the weather is beginning to get colder here in the UK, I’ve found myself reaching for a lot of the same products to keep my dry skin moisturised so I thought I’d write a post about my favourite products for dry skin in the cold weather!

Of course this post is going to contain products designed to moisturise, so these probably aren’t going to be great for you if you have oily skin. However, I am including a mix of moisturisers, hand products, and lip products.

The products that I will be discussing in this review are as follows:

23584205_10213153277720162_295190677_o

  • EOS ‘Orange Zest Lip Balm’ – £5.95
  • Nügg Beauty ‘Hydrating Lip Mask’ – £10.00
  • Lush ‘Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter’ – £7.50
  • Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Mini Hand Food’ Hand Cream – £2.50
  • Figs & Rouge ‘Smart Nutrient Vital Moisture Day Cream’ – £28.00
  • Bettyhula ‘Shea Butter Body Moisturiser’ in ‘Champagne & Spice’ – £12.99
  • Soap and Glory ‘Sugar Crush Body Buttercream’ – £10.00

I have reviewed some of these products previously, for example the Nugg Beauty Lip Mask in my Nügg Beauty Face and Lip Masks Review and the Figs & Rouge product in my Cohorted Beauty Box September 2017 Review. However, I have had a chance to try these out more and tested how they stand up to the cold weather so, whilst my comments may touch on some of the things I’ve already said, I will be specifically discussing them in relation to the current weather.

As a pre-warning, I forgot to take photos of the photos individually so this post is going to be quite heavy – sorry in advance!

Lips

EOS ‘Orange Zest Lip Balm’

I bought my EOS many months ago (I’d say around 6 months ago, if not slightly longer) after hunting for a really good lip balm. I’d seen a bunch of different people talking about these little egg-shaped lip balms so thought I’d give it a go.

I bought mine from the Beauty Bay website (it’s now out of stock), and the description was as follows:
‘EOS Smooth Sphere Orange Zest Lip Balm is a succulently citrus lip balm which moisturises and protects the lips. 95% Organic and 100% Natural, Smooth Sphere Orange Zest Lip Balm has a Paraben and Petrolatum free formula which is packed with Antioxidant rich Vitamin E to shield the lips from environmental damage. Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil soothe the lips whilst the transparent formula glides smoothly on the lips to deliver long lasting moisture. With a delicious and fruity flavour of crisp and refreshing orange, Smooth Sphere Orange Zest Lip Balm keeps the lips moist, soft and sensationally smooth.’

Personally, I’m unsure of the difference between all of the different EOS products apart from the smell and taste, but I’m sure that they do differ. I chose this one because of my love for citrus orange smells.

I absolutely love this product, I always put it on before bed without fail (the dome of product is now basically flat) and apply it throughout the day if I’m in the house. I find that this product moisturises really well and keeps my lips really soft and smooth. I’d say that it definitely delivers on it’s claims and I would highly recommend getting one. This is a must for me at all times of year, but I’ve been reaching for it much more now that it’s colder.

You can get this from Beauty Bay for £5.95 here, they have a whole bunch of different flavours.

UPDATE: My Orange EOS ran out so I replaced it with the Vanilla Mint version and my lips have been horribly dry since. I’m talking scabbing over, cracking, bleeding, around my mouth has been really dry and scabbing over. The only new product I’ve used is the EOS Vanilla Mint. Although the orange one worked for me, the reaction I’m having from the Vanilla Mint one has put me off trying other balms from their line.

Nügg Beauty ‘Hydrating Lip Mask’

As I explained in my Nügg Beauty Face and Lip Masks Review, I won this product in an Instagram giveaway.

In my review, I wrote about the claims and said that I was having mixed reviews with this product and that I wasn’t sure about the results I was achieving with it. I didn’t find myself reaching for the product very often, until recently.

My lips went through a super rough patch a few weeks ago where they were really really dry. I’m still unsure why this happened, I didn’t use anything new so there was nothing that might have caused it. This product literally worked miracles for me during that period. I was wearing so much lip balm but I found that it wasn’t making any difference. I thought I’d give this lip mask a go and the results were incredible. Despite my lips having no change for at least 5 days, I used this product twice, as well as using the EOS in between, and my lips recovered in just over a day. I don’t know why I was having mixed reviews before, but this product literally saved my lips when they were sore and chapped and gross.

Therefore, I would definitely, without a doubt, recommend this product for the cold weather if you have dry lips. This is the main product that is stopping my lips from flaking off of my face at the moment, and I am so thankful that I have it!

If you’d like to give this product a try then you can get it for £10.00 from Beauty Bay here.

Hands

Lush ‘Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter’

I’ve had this product for what feels like forever, and it actually expires in January. Part of the reason why I haven’t used it up by now is because you really just don’t need a lot. The pot seems small and I was a bit put off by its size, but honestly it goes so far that you wouldn’t need a bigger pot.

On the Lush website, this is described with the following passage:
‘Perfect for softening our hardest bits: knees, elbows, heels, brittle nails and cuticles finally get the attention they deserve. Lemony Flutter revives a traditional method of cream-making that even the Romans would recognise. A little goes a long way, and within just a few applications, those neglected areas will be rejuvenated and smelling delicious, just like lemon curd.’

I have been using this mostly on my cuticles and hands, as the skin around my nails tends to get quite hard when my hands are dry and then it causes splits. I really love this product for that purpose, I’ve seen a noticeable difference in my skin specifically in those areas. The only downside is that it is quite greasy and takes a while to absorb. However, as I only put it on the ends of my fingers, it’s not too bad.

Whilst I have put this cream in the ‘hand’ section, I actually use this on my feet as well in areas that are harder. I tend to put quite a lot on and then put socks on and go to sleep, when I wake up I have super soft feet!

I definitely would recommend this product if you have areas of your body that are really dry. This product gives some heavy-duty moisturisation and a couple of applications make a huge difference.

If you’d like to try out this product then you can do so through the Lush website for £7.50 here.

Soap and Glory ‘Sugar Crush Mini Hand Food’

I had this product sat on my dressing table for a while and would use it before I was leaving the house, but I’ve now moved it to my bag because I find I need to use it more throughout the day. I love the size of this, I think it’s a really great size for taking around in your bag, and doesn’t take up loads of space.

Obviously, I love the smell of this hand cream with it being lime. The Soap and Glory ‘Sugar Crush’ range is definitely my favourite out of all of their different ranges!

The description of this on the Boots website is as follows:
‘The secret of many a soft and scrummy hand? It’s Soap & Glory’s legendary, take-me-anywhere-sized HAND FOOD™ Hand Cream. It’s non-greasy, non-sticky and there’s no doubt in our minds you NEED this nourishing mini marvel in your life (and bag). Plus, with moisturising shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow, you won’t be able to keep your mitts off it.THE MOST ASTONISHING HAND CREAM EVER? YOU DECIDE! (In Soap & Glory’s irresistible, sweet-lime-scented SUGAR CRUSH™ fragrance.)’

Again, whilst I’ve expressed in the past that I’m not fond of how over-the-top Soap and Glory’s product descriptions are, I do think that it’s accurate. I absolutely love this hand cream, it adds some nice (and well-needed) moisturise and absorbs quickly into the skin. I definitely think with the cold weather, it’s always worth having a hand cream in your bag to give yourself a little moisturising top-up, and this is definitely the one I would recommend. I think the price is incredible too!

If you’d like to get yourself on of these, then you can do so through the Boots website for £2.50 here.

Face and Body

Figs & Rouge ‘Smart Nutrient Vital Moisture Day Cream’

I received this product in my September 2017 Cohorted Beauty Box (you can read that review here) and have been using it every day since I got it. As I mentioned in that review, I was excited to try it because it has hyaluronic acid in it and I find products that contain this to be really beneficial to my skin.

I’ve incorporated this into my nighttime skincare routine. If you’re interested, my routine is Simple Cleanser, Simple Toner (review on those two products is here), currently the Lancôme ‘Advanced Génifique’ serum that I received in my October Cohorted box but I’m running out so I’ll end up swapping for a different serum, this product, The Orinary ‘Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%’ on a small patch of hyper-pigmentation I have, and The Ordinary ‘Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG’ under my eyes (my review on The Ordinary products I own can be found here).

I definitely have seen a difference in my skin since adding in this product. Not only has it helped a lot with the fine lines on my forehead (I’m very expressive), but my skin is nowhere near as dry as when I wasn’t using this product. I absolutely love everything about this cream, it’s lightweight, it absorbs fast, it has a nice scent, a little goes a long way, and my skin feels way better than it used to.

This is one of the pricier items I’m discussing in this post, but if you would like to try this product then you can get it through the Feel Unique website for £28.00 here.

Bettyhula ‘Shea Butter Body Moisturiser’ in ‘Champagne & Spice’

This was another product that I received in a Cohorted beauty box, but I actually received this product in my May Cohorted box, which was before I began blogging, so I’ve never reviewed it.

Firstly, let’s talk about how incredible this product smells. It’s such a fantastic smell I love it. The smell is described on their website as ‘musky, spicy, sensual, sophisticated and utterly compelling’, whilst that may not be the way that I would have described it, it does explain it perfectly. It’s really difficult to actually put your finger on exactly what this smells like, but it is a little musky (but not the traditional musky scent which I hate) and spicy.

On the Bettyhula website, this product is described with the following passage:
‘Lovingly applied everyday, your skins youthfulness will be brought back to life with our blend of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera. These natural ingredients carefully chosen for their nourishing properties leave the skin feeling soft, looking radiant and smelling gorgeous. Good for relieving signs of stretch marks, scaring, dry/sensitive skin, and for soothing sun burn.’

This cream is quite thick, so again a little goes a long way. I personally have this sat on my dressing table and use it before my makeup (but I’ve learnt to open my eyeliner first or I can’t get the lid off). I find that it moisturises my skin really well and the moisture lasts all day. I used to end up with dry patches on my forehead and in-between my eyebrows but this doesn’t happen anymore. This product gets rid of my dry patches immediately and stops them from coming back throughout the day. Plus the scent stays for quite a long time, which is a huge bonus!

I have hardly used any of this jar, so I can tell it’s going to last me ages. Personally I think that the size of the jar compared to the price is amazing. When I got this in my Cohorted box I honestly thought it looked, smelt, and seemed, a lot more expensive than it is!

If you’d like to give this product a try then you can get it from the Bettyhula website for £12.99 here.

Soap and Glory ‘Sugar Crush Body Buttercream’

The final product I’d like to talk about is another Soap and Glory one, and another from the ‘Sugar Crush’ range (not really a surprise, is it). I use this product anywhere and everywhere. Typically I apply this after getting out the shower (after I’ve used the ‘Sugar Crush’ body wash, of course) and I love how hyrdating it is. I tend to focus this mostly on my legs, especially after shaving, and it works really well to make my legs look smooth and even.

The description on the Boots website for this product is:
‘Wake up and smell the citrus! Soap & Glory’s utlra-rich body buttercream is loaded with shea & cocoa butter, almond & coconut oil and a super-refreshing double-citrus whammy of uplifting lime oil and smoothing lime tree blossom extract.’

I would much prefer if all Soap and Glory descriptions were like this but that aside, I would highly recommend this body cream. My legs get super dry, especially after I’ve showered and shaved them, but this product completely eliminates that problem for me. Like some of the other creams I’ve mentioned, this is really lightweight and absorbs quickly. Sometimes I do add two layers just to ensure everything’s as soft and smooth as it can be, but that’s just me being paranoid!

If this product is something you’d want to try then you can get it from Boots for £10.00 here.

So this brings us to the end of this post, I really hope that you enjoyed it! This is super different to what I usually post but I enjoyed writing it. I feel like this has made me realise just how dry my skin, seemingly everywhere, is. I hope that this will help you if you have dry skin and are looking for products to help you out. One thing I will say is that battling dry skin is a process, and it does take a combination of products that do different jobs.

If you enjoyed reading this then be sure to give it a quick like! Also if you think my blog is something that you’d like to read in the future then be sure to follow me to stay up-to-date with when I’m posting – I review at least twice a week.

Love,

Charlotte (Multibendystraw)
